Revolutionary War Coming to Latta Plantation

Charlotte - Visitors to Latta Plantation will soon be able to experience how Charlotteans defended their independence when Cornwallis came through the area in 1780. September 5 through 6, reenactors will fight the Battle of Charlotte, which originally occurred at the corner of Trade and Tryon Streets. Sunday will feature the Battle of McIntyre Farm, which took place only a few miles from Latta, off Beatties Ford Road .

Pfeiffer University Jazz Ensemble presents spring concert April 28

April 15, 2009 – The Pfeiffer University Jazz Ensemble will present its annual spring concert at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28 on the front lawn adjacent to the Administration Building on the Misenheimer campus. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Campus Theatre on the third floor of the Administration Building. The concert is free and open to the public.
A highlight this year will be an opening performance featuring several area high school jazz ensembles selected to perform with Pfeiffer and the guest artists. Some of those schools include East Davidson High School, Thomasville, N.C.; Concord High School, Concord, N.C.; and East Forsyth High School, Kernersville, N.C. The high school musicians will perform at 7:15 p.m.

Pfeiffer University presents first senior art exhibition

APRIL 16, 2009 – The Department of Fine Arts at Pfeiffer University will host its first Senior Art Exhibition "Tacky and Irrelevant" now through May 7 in the Grace and Cameron West Gallery on the Misenheimer campus. The display is free and open to the public.
The exhibition comprises a number of creative pieces by four graduating seniors. Works by David Barrett, of Kannapolis; Petra Ljubicic, of Asheboro, N.C.; Najja Moon, of Durham, N.C.; and Heidi Ramseur, of Albemarle, will be featured in the show. According to Joshua Cross, assistant professor of art and director of the Grace and Cameron West Gallery, these four students have played integral roles in the development of Pfeiffer’s art program.

Pfeiffer University Wind Ensemble to present spring concert April 21

APRIL 6, 2009 – The Pfeiffer University Wind Ensemble will perform a spring concert at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 in the Stokes Student Center Community Room on the Misenheimer campus. The band will perform a selection of familiar and new works. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Wind Ensemble, directed by Ed Kiefer, director of instrumental music at Pfeiffer, and assisted by David Kirby, associate professor of music, will present a concert of familiar and new works for band. The concert will feature works including Leonard Bernstein’s overture to “Candide” and Saint Saens’ bacchanale from “Samson and Delilah.”
Other pieces include Percy Grainger’s settings of “Irish Tune from County Derry” (a tune also known as “Londonderry Air” or “Danny Boy”) and "Shepherd's Hey," a Traditional English Morris Dance. Kirby will be clarinet soloist on Weber’s “Polocca,” the finale of the Second Clarinet Concerto. The ensemble will also perform "The Big Cage," a Circus Galop by Karl King, and "Festive Overture" by Russian Composer Dmitri Shostakovich, in a famous transcription by Donald Hunsberger.
