Davidson, NC – In recognition of the nation’s best new housing designs Eric Johnson of E.S. Johnson Builders was awarded the Best in American Living Award for his home entry “The Brandywine Valley Home.” The category was Best Single-Family Detached Home 4,001 square feet and over. The Best in American Living Awards, considered the foremost residential design competition in the nation, is given annually by Professional Builder magazine and the National Association of Home Builders. This year’s ceremony was held at The Wynn Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas during the International Builders Show on January 19th, 2009.
“The Brandywine Valley,” was a home built in Fort Mill, S.C. in the neighborhood of Springfield for the annual Homearama Showcase. Despite its South Carolina location, this home is an authentic reproduction of a Bucks County (Pa.) farmhouse. To make it look like an old house that had been added on to over the last 150 years, the main structure, built with four wings, each with a distinctive look appropriate to the time period. For instance, the first floor study looks like an old spring porch that was enclosed. Blending the old with the new, a cascading outdoor living area with a large whirlpool flows into the main pool, the main pool then drops into another smaller pool complemented by a large arbor and stone fireplace.
